AP ART Concentration Artist Statement
My concentration evolves over time, presenting a growth story on our mind’s emotional states. The viewer is invited to find themselves within the art, discovering their perception through the senses (1). The constricted monochrome color scheme (2,3,4) shows how feelings of disconnect are conflicting and disheartening. Taking a stand, we face our inner cognitive reflection (5): The portfolio then shifts to brilliant color! revealing how once we discover our own “control rooms” (6), we can dial in how our mind uniquely works. This hope leads to 6 and 7, prompting a positive, self-cultivating outlook. 8 and 9 expose the multifaceted nature of self we find through this self-awareness. Finally, 10 offers warnings on how our perceptions can be “colored”, illustrating how we inadvertently balance our identity against the expectations of others. All pieces are united through metaphor and abstraction, using a variety of mediums to mimic the discovery of finding your unique perception.
